Battlestar Mafia May. 27th, 2008 @ 09:20 pm
I was going to leave this a few days, but given what just happened in Greg's Mafia game...

Once x_equals_speed's game is finished, I'm planning to run a game of Mafia, themed around the reimagined series of Battlestar Galactica. The Mafia will take the form of the Cylons, whilst the Town will be the Colonials. Every day, the characters will decide who to put into the airlock. In the night, the Cylons will continue their attempts to wipe out humanity.

Everyone in the game will get a character that they are, even if it's just a name with no ability associated with it. And just so everyone knows, which characters the Cylons are will be randomised, you won't be able to work out who's who by using the character names!

Note that there might be minor spoilers around the first couple of series based on the roles. Nothing major, but do be warned...

If you're interested, please sign up on this post!

1. Grab the book you're reading.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions

"Since the Armistice at the end of the First Cylon War some 40 years ago, thousands of spacecraft and planetcraft have been built for scientific, military, civillian and commecrcial operations. Despite the wide range of vehicle missions, objectives, and designs, most have several features in common. This section gives a brief overview of those shared features.

Power

Power on most Colonial (and Cylon) spacecraft is generated from the fusion of dual-refined tylium ore. Tylium fusion power plants are highly effective, able to operate for long periods of time without major overhaul - so long as the tylium fuel is properly refined and regular maintenance is performed"

1) How *you* doin!?

I'm doing quite well. Work for my course is chugging along, not being too stressful, I'm socialising quite a bit- things are building up towards the end of term. I've still got a quite decent amount of cash sitting in my bank account (well, compared to before term), which running away for the holidays will mean should be kept together to start rebuilding a cash reserve

2) What's exciting right now?

It's a symbol of my final descent into hackery, but i'm actually finding Guild Politics stuff quite exciting. I'm quite happy for a couple of people who managed to get to be presidents of their halls (they deserve it, I think they've already put in more effort than Chamberlain's President did all year), and there's Guild Council coming up. Also I just joined the Paintball club, and will be being shot on Sunday

3) What would your perfect halloween costume be?

I'm really not one for fancy dress in general, although the axe headband I got this year is quite good and will probably see multiple uses in the future

4) What's your favourite song?

Not sure of one in particular, but anything that Half Man Half Biscuit do is likely to be ace:

5) Whose your favourite family member?

oooooooooo...difficult! However, I think I'm going to cop out and say the Cat, Chad

If anyone wants me to think of 5 questions, please comment here!

The Democrats have managed to retake the house, there are still 17 races yet to be declareable, but that's just determining majority

In the Senate, presuming that Lieberman and Tester are effectively Democrats, then it's 49 each, with 2 yet to report. The Dems need both to take control, due to Cheney's tiebreaker. The two races are the expected ones, Montana with Tester(D) vs Burns(R), with 6,000 in it with 85% of the votes counted. The second is Webb(D) vs Allen(R) in Virginia. Here it's a 99% reporting, with 1,170,564 for Webb, 1,162,717 for Allen, and 26,045 for the independent Parker.

What's probably not being reported that heavily is the Ballot Measures, which are refurendums that are run in states alongside the others some Highlights that people may want to know:

Colorado, Idaho, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin all voted to Ban Same Sex Marriages yesterday. The Arizona vote on this is undecided and still very close, but leaning slightly towards no.

California and Oregon both had motions requiring Parental Notification for abortions. Oregon's one was defeated, California's one is looking like it, but isn't confirmed yet. South Dakota said no to a almost general ban on Abortion that would have challenged Wade vs Roe.

Michigan voted to prevent Affirmative Action in its universities and state apparatus

In different news, Missouri now allows stem cell research. Several states had motions to legalise marijuana, but none of them passed. Several also raised their minimum wages.

Just some things to think about.
